Les Enfants Rouges depicts the horrors a person can endure and how they cope with those traumatic experiences: sadness, anger, denial, fear. Despite the violence, it offers hope in memory, the comfort found in being with family, and in the resilience of every individual.

While grazing their herd in the mountains and playing near a spring, two teenagers are attacked by terrorists. Sixteen-year-old Nizar is murdered. Ashraf, who is only fourteen, must deliver the macabre message to his family. Based on true events, this film focuses on the trauma and grief caused by the murder.

With particularly confident cinematography and direction, the film addresses friendship and the processing of a traumatic, violent event experienced by children who are the victims of political and religious violence. The film is filled with poetic imagery, emotionally powerful scenes, pure and natural acting, and a beautiful soundtrack with a moving closing song. The film Les Enfants Rouges provides some comfort for grief.
