The young Sujo moves to Mexico City to escape the violence that has plagued his family for years. When a teacher takes in interest in his future, it offers a path to hope.

Sujo grows up in Mexico with his aunts. His father was brutally killed as a member of a drug cartel when he was still a young boy. Sujo makes it his life’s mission to break the cycle of violence in his family, no matter how difficult it may be. He decides to move to the city and study literature. Will he be able to take control of his own future?

Despite its essentially simple story, 'Sujo' is a remarkable film. The direction and cinematography are stunning. The contrast between darkness and light adds an extra dimension. Thanks to the film's evocative style, it encourages the viewer to try to understand the thought processes of the protagonist. 'Sujo' is a gently-paced film with an intriguing story.
