Melina is determined to choose her own path. In this intimate documentary, created by her aunt, we get a vivid glimpse into her world—full of play, struggle, and conversations about family and identity.

Nine-year-old Melina lives with her grandparents in Isfahan, Iran, after her parents' divorce. Her mother struggles to maintain their bond while building a new life. The law allows Melina to choose with whom she wants to grow up, and she is determined to take control of her own future.

Directed by Melina’s aunt, their close bond offers a unique insight into Melina's life and thoughts. From scolding her mother in the car to painting her grandfather’s nails: play, conflict, and deep conversations alternate in this vivid documentary about motherhood, family, and identity. At the same time, the film subtly exposes what are the position and the rights of women in Iran.

"Een bewijs van de veerkracht van Melina en haar grootouders, maar ook van de inherente imperfectie en tekortkomingen van wat het is om mens te zijn." − Juryverslag CPH:DOX
