'There is no Evil', which won Rasoulof a Golden Bear on the Berlin International Film Festival, is a powerful call to action to keep resisting injustice.

Every country that enforces the death penalty needs people to kill these people. Four men are put in front of an unthinkable but simple choice. Whatever they decide, it will directly or indirectly corrode themselves, their relationships, and their entire lives. Heshmat, a model husband and father, wakes up early every morning to go work his thankless job. Pouya, a soldier, cannot fathom killing another man, yet he is obliged to. Javad does not know proposing to his girlfriend will not be the only surprise on her birthday. Bahram lives far-away and is a doctor, but cannot practice his profession. He decides to tell his niece, who is visiting from Europe, everything about his life as an outcast.

In four seemingly separate stories, director Mohammad Rasoulof examines whether these men can escape the horrible task that lies before them. Even though the Iranian government forbade him from ever making films again, they were not able to silence him, on the contrary. 'There is no Evil', which won Rasoulof a Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, is a powerful call to action to keep resisting injustice.
