'Eyimofe (This Is My Desire)' contains two chapters: ‘Spain’ and ‘Italy’, although we do not get to see these countries. In Lagos, the Nigerian city with over a million inhabitants, we follow Mofe and Rosa. Jack-of-all-trades Mofe works as a technician in a printing establishment, until the fuses – from the old, continuously repaired machinery and from Mofe himself – blow. Hairdresser and barmaid Rosa pushes her way through her landlord and takes care of her pregnant younger sister. Mofe’s and Rosa’s stories intertwine coincidentally when they end up in the same medical practice, and when Rosa’s broken refrigerator finds its way into Mofe’s hands, who fixes electronics after his work hours.
They lead different lives, but ultimately have the same dream: to build a new life in the West. Mofe maps out his escape with the help of a passport in the name of Sanchez, and Rosa places all hope in the heart of a rich American expat and in the hands of a con artist. But a continuation of setbacks keeps Mofe and Rosa captured between their dream and their goal: they will both have to bury their plans for a new life.
