‘Regretfully at Dawn' is an introspective Asian film that unfolds at a gentle pace, allowing a mysterious layer of magical realism to gradually wash over it.

War veteran Yong leads a simple life. He lives with his granddaughter Xiang and their mysterious dog Rambo in a small town near Bangkok. While Xiang prepares for a new chapter in her life, in Paris, Yong has to learn to come to terms with his past.

Director Sivaroj Kongsakul stays true to his style in this film, slowly and subtly bringing magical realism to life. This atmospheric work portrays the warm relationship between a grandfather and his granddaughter while it does not shy away from confronting harsh reality. Its strength lies in the simultaneous presence of joy and melancholy. An emotional and captivating film.
