Memories in a Frame | Kora - Upshot

festival
Thu 24 Apr 25 - Sun 4 May 25

Under the title 'Memories in a Frame,' we present two short films. Kora features five intimate portraits of female refugees. The film's ending seamlessly introduces the second part, where Upshot leaves you speechless with its intelligently choreographed shots.

Kora

Five women who fled from their homeland now live in Portugal. Through photographs and objects, they reveal their stories, memories, and the reasons they had to leave their home.

Kora is a powerful and somewhat mysterious work that leaves a lasting impression, similar to the photos that drive the story. Not only is this contemporary black-and-white film visually striking, but it also pays great attention to sound detail. The diverse stories told in the film are strongly representative of the important narratives that MOOOV aims to share.

Upshot

Somewhere in the future, on a remote farm, Suleiman and Lubna live quietly, tending their chickens and looking after their olive trees. During dinner, they talk about their five children: Bassel, Oumaya, Hamza, Tarik, and Khaled. One day, a journalist arrives to interview them.

This short film is a textbook example of its genre and, in our eyes, an important exponent of Palestinian cinema. With a simple story and a sober yet powerful visual language, this film makes your world tremble for a moment. Every scene is intelligently choreographed and contributes to a rarely felt emotional impact. This film was a must to close the opening night of our festival.
