A man from the nineteenth century captures, tames, and lives with an ox while transitioning from a hunter-gatherer life in the mountains to a sedentary existence on the land.

A man descends a mountain as a massive fire burns out behind him. He finds an ox, which becomes his loyal companion. Together, they plow the land, facing extreme rainstorms and changing seasons. The film is inspired by ten Japanese Zen Buddhist drawings that depict the path to enlightenment.

A contemplative yet captivating film, beautifully shot in black and white. Thought-provoking moments are contrasted with intense bursts of rainstorms and volcanic eruptions. You don’t need to understand everything to be captivated by this film.
