Anas, a former rapper, is employed as a teacher in a cultural centre in Sis Moumen, a suburb of Casablanca. In his first lesson he talks about the change hip-hop has brought in America. Encouraged by Anas, his students learn how to express themselves and write down their experiences. Will they be brave enough to free themselves from traditions to live their passion?
Carried by the music, the film shows the impact of globalisation without relying on clichés. But above all, Casablanca Beats brings us a powerful message about how art can change a young person’s life and how freedom of speech can turn the tide on a history of oppression.
